INTRODUCTION
Skincare plays a significant role in our everyday lives. Maintaining healthy, radiant skin requires consistent care and attention. When a proper skincare routine is ignored, the skin can become vulnerable to several issues such as dullness, fatigue, buildup of dead skin cells, loss of natural glow, uneven skin tone, acne breakouts, and pimples. In this blog, I will discuss a variety of skincare routine products that are suitable for different skin types, helping you choose what works best for your individual needs.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR SKIN TYPE
Understanding your skin type is extremely important, and I’m here to help you figure it out. Many people struggle to correctly identify their skin type, which often leads them to choose unsuitable skincare products. Using the wrong products can cause long-term damage and worsen existing skin concerns.Trust me, recognizing your skin type and selecting products that match its specific needs is a vital step in building an effective skincare routine. If possible, I strongly recommend consulting a dermatologist. A qualified professional can properly evaluate your skin and provide the right guidance to address your concerns more effectively than self-diagnosis. However, here's an easy way of understanding your skin type:-
SKIN TYPE | CHARACTERISTICS |
1. Normal Skin | a) Skin feels balanced b) Smooth and soft in texture c) Small or barely visible pores d) Sensitive e) Tendency of developing acne or pimples, blackheads or whiteheads is less f) Healthy and even complexioned |
2. Oily Skin | a) Shiny and greasy skin b) Enlarged and visible pores c) Frequent pimples, acne or blackheads d) Does not hold makeup for a long time |
3. Dry Skin | a) Skin feels rough and tight b) Dull appearance c) Visible lines or cracks d) Skin feels tight after washing. e) May feel itchy or irritated |
4. Combination Skin | a) Oily texture in the T-Zone area (forehead, nose, chin) b) Dry or normal cheeks c) Occasional breakouts in oily areas d) Uneven skin texture |
5. Sensitive Skin | a) Irritation in skin b) Redness, itching or burning sensation c) Prone to rashes and allergies d) Reacts quickly to skin care products or weather changes. |
SKIN TEST- EASILY IDENTIFY YOUR SKIN
* Do not apply any moisturizer or gel on your skin after cleansing.
* Simply wait for 1 hour. Don't expose your face to any exhaustion.
* Accordingly, identify your skin from the following chart:-
NATURE OF SKIN | TYPE OF SKIN |
1. Greasy | Oily skin |
2. Tight, itchy, line formation | Dry skin |
3. Greasy in T-Zone area | Combination skin |
4. Comfortable, smooth | Normal Skin |
5. Redness and irritation | Sensitive skin |
These are a few simple ways to determine your skin type, although it’s important to remember that skin can sometimes behave differently. For instance, my skin is neither overly oily nor excessively dry, so I follow a customized skincare routine with products that suit my specific needs.
In situations like this, it becomes essential to carefully select the right products for your skincare routine. Choosing wisely can make a significant difference in maintaining balanced and healthy skin. I will be sharing a separate, detailed post about combination skin and how to manage it, so stay connected with my website for more updates.
In this blog, I will introduce effective skincare routine products that are generally suitable for all skin types to help you build a consistent skincare habit. But before diving into the product recommendations, let’s first understand each step of a proper skincare routine in detail.
DAYTIME
1) Cleansing- It is the first and the most important step of skincare. It helps removing dirt, oil, sweat and makeup from your skin. Try cleansing your face twice a day.2) Serum- Apply any Vitamin C rich serum that helps cure the ache and pimples and protects against environmental damage.
3) Moisturizing- Moisturizer keeps the skin hydrated and soft. It prevents dryness or itchiness and protects the skin.
4) Eye cream- Applying eye cream is a healthy habit to treat dark circles and also the delicate eye area. However, eye cream is optional to use. Not every person is comfortable using it, so you can skip it if you feel uncomfortable. I have been using the eye cream given below for 3 years and it is absolutely helpful for all types of skin.
NIGHT
1) Cleansing- It is required twice a day. Cleansing helps in making your face relaxed after exhaustion for the whole day. It is important for removing makeup and Sunscreen.2) Moisturizing & Serum- Apply Moisturizer and Serum to remove the tightness of the face after cleansing. It keeps the skin hydrated and free from any breakouts.
3) Eye Cream-Helps removing dark circles and keeps the gentle eye area hydrated. It is again optional.
4) Toner- It is important to re-hydrate and balance your skin properly. It removes leftover dirts, and maintains the pH level of skin. You can use this toner given below as it had helped me a lot. I generally choose this one every-time.
TWICE A WEEK
1) Exfoliating- It is a process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin to brighten and smooth-en the skin up. Usually this is done through a face scrub twice or thrice a week.2) Face Pack- You can apply a face mask for removing skin barriers and enjoy glowing skin. This is the step that is to be done twice a week. Apply face pack and wait for 10-15 minutes and then wash your face up.
3) Face Mask- You can also apply overnight sheet masks or face masks twice or thrice a week to re-hydrate and relax your skin. There are many available face masks but generally Vitamin C masks are suitable for all types of skin.
Choosing products wisely is an important step. Since, I am providing content suitable for all skin types, I am going to strongly suggest some products that have really helped me cope with the difficulties of my skin.
